FROM NICE

TOP TIPS:
(1) Take plenty of coins (there is a change machine inthe baggage arrival area of Nice Airport) -- you'll need them for the motorway tolls.
(2) Check how the lights work on your hire car before you leave the carpark -- there are a lot of dark tunnels on the motorway between Nice and the Italian border.

Take the main coast highway (A8) towards Monaco, Menton and then Italia. Throw the appropriate coins in the motorway toll baskets as you come to them. Shortly after crossing the border turn off for Ventimiglia.. After the bridge turn right in direction of Ventimiglia Centro (town centre). Keep on the right and before the roundabout turn right towards Centro Mare (town centre, sea) and take the bridge. Cross the bridge and take a right in direction of Centro Mare after the bridge. Follow the road straight ahead. You are on the Passeggiata Trento Trieste. When you see the San Remo blue sign turn left on Via C. C. Tacito. After the stop sign, at the yellow Agip petrol station, turn right in direction of San Remo. Follow the road SS1 Aurelia. Approximately 300 metres after the bridge over the railway you will be at a roundabout, take the 2nd exit in direction of Dolceacqua and Camporosso. At the roundabout follow in direction of Camporosso-Dolceacqua-Isobolona-Apricale. Follow the road straight on in direction of Pigna on the SP64. At the traffic light keep left leaving the village of Camporosso on the right and follow the road. Go through Dolceacqua and follow the road keeping the river on your right. Take the bridge and turn right in direction of Baiardo (you will see the blue signs for Isolabona-Apricale-Pigna). Go through Isolabona and get ready to turn right across the bridge in direction of Apricale, which is itself a further 2 km. The town becomes clearly visible on the hill ahead, and the road you are now on (SP63) first seems to heading to the left of the town, but it then sweeps round a couple of hairpins, so that you are now directly below the town, which is now on your left., with the river valley on your right. You pass a Farmacia on the left, with cars parked on your right between the trees, and after a couple of hundred metres La Tarrochi Bar (Joker sign) appears on the right. Stop here (Carpark 1) or at the much bigger Carpark 2 a hundred metres further on. The total drive is around an hour or a bit longer.

FROM GENOA
Take the motorway (E80) towards Monaco and Nice, and when you reach Ventimiglia follow the directions shown on in the column on the left. The total journey time is about two hours.
